Stephens Praises Corbett Budget for Avoiding Tax Hikes, Will Review Education Proposals
HARRISBURG – Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) applauded Gov. Tom Corbett’s budget proposal for balancing the state’s budget without raising taxes but reserved judgment on proposed changes to the way the budget funds education:

“Without raising taxes, Governor Corbett has balanced the budget, continued funding for important programs like domestic violence and rape crisis centers and proposed measures to give local school districts more latitude to spend money as they deem appropriate – all initiatives I think are important. This is just a proposal, however, and I’ll analyze it closely to ensure our schools, including our universities, are receiving the funds they need to fulfill their mission.”

The House will begin hearings on the budget on Feb. 21.

Corbett presented his $27.138 billion spending plan to the Legislature on Tuesday.
