Stephens, Murt Praise Commonwealth Financing’s Support For Clean Energy School for Hatboro-Horsham
9/18/2013

HARRISBURG—Reps. Todd Stephens and Thomas Murt praised the Commonwealth Financing Authority for approving $2 million in funding for an Alternative and Clean Energy High Performance Building project in the Hatboro-Horsham School District.

“This money is dedicated to creating a new high performance elementary school building that will become a standard in the Commonwealth for energy efficiency and conservation,” Stephens said.  “At a time when we must reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce energy costs, this a win for the district and the state.”

The project will include a geothermal HVAC system, installation of energy-efficient lighting and thermal envelope upgrades.  The project is anticipated to reduce energy consumption by 2,248,395 kBTU annually.  The installation of low-flow water fixtures will save the district approximately 130,650 gallons of water annually.

Stephens, who has been a strong advocate for greater energy efficiency, sent a letter to the Department of Community and Economic Development to urge them to help fund this project.

“In the long run, this will save the district money and become a blueprint for the rest of Pennsylvania on how to build more energy-efficient schools,” Murt said.
