Stephens Announces Computer Science Grants Awarded to Local Schools
1/18/2019
HARRISBURG—Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) today announced that four Hatboro-Horsham School District schools within the 151st District will receive grants to expand their computer training programs.

The schools receiving the $35,000 grants include:

  • Blair Mill Elementary School.
  • Hallowell Learning Community.
  • Keith Valley Middle School.
  • Simmons Elementary School.
“This is all part of a program I’ve advocated for to better prepare students to use computers and technology in their lives and future careers,” Stephens said. “The money will help schools that applied for funding to better emphasize STEM education to our elementary schools.”

These grants are part of an $8.7 million investment to expand computer science classes and teacher training at 765 schools across the Commonwealth.

The targeted grants represent the next phase of the PAsmart initiative, which will provide $20 million to bring computer science and STEM education to elementary, middle, and high schools, and professional development for teachers.

With this commitment, Pennsylvania now ranks second in the country for investments in K-12 STEM and computer science.
